End Your Coverage

There are many good reasons to end your coverage through MNsure, like:

  • You got married and are joining your spouse’s coverage
  • You got a new job with employer-sponsored insurance
  • You now qualify for Medicare

We’re sad to see you go—but when the time comes, the process is very easy.

How to End Your Plan

You can cancel or disenroll from a plan online. Sign in to your MNsure account and navigate to the My Enrollments page.

Find the plan you want to end.

  • If your coverage has already started, the button will say “Disenroll.”
  • If your coverage has not started, the button will say “Cancel Coverage.”

The system will take you through a number of questions about who needs to be disenrolled and the reason for ending coverage. You will also need to select a date for the last day of coverage.

Caution: If you end your coverage through MNsure, you can't re-enroll in a plan until the next open enrollment period. The only exception is if you qualify for a special enrollment period.

Common Questions

How do I confirm my insurance company will no longer bill me after I have ended my plan?

Contact your insurance company to stop automatic payments or if you have questions about payments.

When will my coverage end?

You can log in to your MNsure account and end your coverage online. You will need to select a date for the last day of coverage.

For example, if you have new coverage starting June 1, you could sign in anytime in March, April or May and disenroll. To avoid any overlap, you would select May 31 for your last day of coverage through MNsure.

I have Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare. Is this for me?

No. This information is only for plans sold through MNsure.

To end your Medical Assistance coverage, contact your county or Tribal office.

To end your MinnesotaCare coverage, contact the Department of Human Services.
