Account Set Up

This page includes information about setting up an Assister Portal for METS account.

Once MNsure has set up an assister portal account, the navigator or certified application counselor (CAC) will receive an activation email with instructions. If this email is not received, please Contact the Assister Resource Center (ARC).

The email will include two types of identification numbers. It is important not to confuse these numbers.

  • Registration number: This number will be used one-time by the navigator or CAC and serves as the identification number for creating an assister portal account. Assisters should NOT enter a Social Security number when setting up their account.
  • Reference number: The navigator or CAC will share this number with consumers so they can provide authorization to the assister for support through the assister portal.

Creating a username and password:

  • Usernames must be unique. A message will appear to indicate the availability of a username. If the navigator or CAC has a consumer account on mnsure.org, they will need to select a different username for their assister portal account.
  • Navigators and CACs should NOT share access to their assister portal username and password.

Multi-factor authentication (MFA):

To enhance security, federal regulations requires that MNsure implement multi-factor authentication (MFA) for the assister portal. This process requires users to input a one-time access code following their username and password during each login attempt. Access codes can be received via email, which is the default method, or through a compatible application available on both Android and Apple devices.

When logging into the Assister Portal for METS for the first time after creating an account, the assister will need to complete the MFA registration process. The Multifactor Authentication Guide (PDF) can be use for guidance when setting up an assister portal account.
